Zermatt, 23 August 2026 – 4,130 runners, thrilling head-to-head battles, glowing headlamps on the mountainside and a freshly snow-covered Matterhorn as a backdrop: the 14th edition of the TREK® Matterhorn Ultraks, held from 21 to 23 August 2026, was a resounding success in many respects. Never before had so many participants taken to the start line. The weekend also demonstrated that the appeal of the trail running event extends far beyond the races themselves. Those who were not running could experience the emotions just as intensely at the start, along the course and at the finish.

Zermatt, 21 August 2026 – An EXTREME under exceptional circumstances: Heavy rain and a low snow line forced the organisers of the TREK® Matterhorn Ultraks on Friday to postpone the start of the EXTREME by two hours and stage the race on a shortened course. From a sporting perspective, the result was a fast and highly intense race. Italy’s Alex Oberbacher prevailed after a thrilling duel with local favourite Martin Anthamatten, while Romania’s Denisa Dragomir claimed victory in the women’s race.

Zermatt, 13 August 2026 – The TREK® Matterhorn Ultraks has long become much more than a trail running race. For three days, Zermatt transforms into a stage for elite competition, recreational trail running and unforgettable mountain experiences. More than 4,600 runners have already registered for the 14th edition, taking place from 21 to 23 August 2026. Three races have been sold out for quite some time.

Rotkreuz, 7 July 2026 – Matterhorn Ultraks is entering a new chapter: for the first time in the event’s history, the iconic trail running race has secured a title sponsor. A long-term partnership has been agreed with TREK®, the protein bar brand of the Lotus Bakeries group. Effective immediately, the event will be known as TREK® Matterhorn Ultraks.

Zermatt, 25 August 2024 – The 12th Matterhorn Ultraks, held in Zermatt from 23 to 25 August 2024, was once again an international Skyrunning festival of the highest class. The event was marked by the victory of local athlete Martin Anthamatten (39) in the challenging EXTREME race, which is part of the Merrell Skyrunner® World Series. Last year’s winner, Anastasia Rubtsova (32), dominated the women’s race with the 11th best time overall. Additionally, a record number of participants served as excellent publicity for the event in the high-alpine mountain landscape.

The trail running event Matterhorn Ultraks in Zermatt from 25 May to 27 August 2023 still enjoyed growing popularity in its 11th edition.
